Island Brac

Island Brac  - the island of sun, sea and stone, with an area of ​​396 km2, is the largest central Dalmatian island and the third largest in the Adriatic Sea. The highest peak of Vidova Gora (778 m above sea level) is also the highest island point in the Adriatic. Origin of the name derive from the lyrical name "brentos' (deer). Byzantine Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus island in his description of the empire in the 9th century called the most beautiful and most fertile on the Adriatic Sea.

From the mainland is divided by the Brac channel whose width extends from the narrowest 5 km in the northeast to 13 km to the northwest. The island has a total population of 14,434 inhabitants.

Citizens are focused on tourism, raise cattle, fishing and agriculture. Brac lamb and olive oil is far known.

The climate is Mediterranean, and is characterized by dry, hot summers, and mild and short winters. With around 2700 hours of sunshine a year, the island of Brac is one of the sunniest areas in the country. Average summer temperatures of air are 25° C and of sea 24° C. The average winter temperature is 9° C, sea 14° C. Snow on the island is very rare. On the island of Brac there is no large settlements and heavy industry so pollution is almost non existent. 

The vicinity of Split, the economic and administrative center of Dalmatia, the island provides a good connection with the mainland (10 to 15 lines per day).
